Name: Enki/Rokuta
Canon: The 12 Kingdoms (novels)
Canon Point: After Youko's ascension
Age: Over 513, looks 13
Type of Character: Canon
Reference: link to his wiki page, and one on kirin.
Personality: The most basic personality traits of Enki (who also goes by the name Rokuta) has all to do with the fact that he's a kirin, and as such he's compassionate to a fault, seeking to see the best in everyone - or demand they live up to it - even if he is aware of the person in question being a pretty horrible example of humanity, or not having any good intentions. If there is any sort of extenuating circumstance, he will find it and hold it up as a redeeming feature; he's simply just as likely to sympathize with someone's issues and their right to do what's best for them (as long as it doesn't hurt others) as he's to demand they help others, if they can or are in a position where it'd be expected to. "The kirin is made of justice and mercy" even when that might not be the best thing to be or the right stance to take, and he could even be well aware of this, but it's not something he can change; the kirin are as they were made, by Tenten (the main deity of the 12 Kingdoms world), and awareness or experiences cannot change these traits. This is not to say he doesn't have personality besides them, because he does, and his sometimes downright bratty and argumentative personality might cover up those qualities from time to time. He's not afraid to disagree, and loudly too, if his opinion differs, but he will listen to what is said. The more comfortable he is (as with his ruler), the more forceful he might be in his disagreements. He might, however, even agree with opposing views in some cases, but will still default to what is either the natural and metaphysical laws of his world, or what is most kind to the general masses and actual, living people.
He's also not particularly polite if he can get away with it, though this mostly comes into play while trying to needle his Emperor, as he takes any chance he has to good-naturedly take verbal pot-shots at Shoryu, who does the same to his kirin. They have an easy, relaxed relationship, which has grown over time as Rokuta does not trust or like people in charge - kings and such rulers the most of all. It's a hold-over from his childhood, when he was swept into Japan from his native world and born during the Warring States era and witnessed the capital burning down. His antagonism has mellowed over time, but not even his amiable relationship with the ruler of En can completely erase that he considers rulers the killers of their own countries; sooner or later they will destroy it, even if only by dying, and thus bring calamity to their people. It's quite unfortunate overall; he's practically an anarchist that's also the lynchpin in a cosmically ordained monarchist system that does ensure the well-being of the various kingdoms as long as the emperor rules well.
Playing into his bratty behaviour and despite the fact that he's well over 500 years old (though immortality in the 12 kingdoms seem to work somewhat on preserving the individual at the maturity level and age they became immortal at), Rokuta does not feel any shame in trying to get out of his tasks in helping to rule the kingdom by playing on his apparent age, and he can often appear to be nothing more than 13 years old. This further manifests in the tendency to wander off from the palace and, not just out into En (like kirin, like king, as Shoryu does this as well) to get a more immediate awareness of how their work affects the people living there, but also travelling to Japan pretty regularly. Whether that is his own, small way of rebelling against his own position or simply the undeniable, enduring connection of having been born on Earth is hard to say, but it's still used to help people as En has a system set up to aid those Japanese who get swept into the 12 kingdoms if they end up in En. On the other hand and regardless any of these behaviours to 'shirk' his work, as a kirin he is and can be mature beyond his years. Even as a three-four year old in Japan his human parents remarked that he had far greater understanding and talked more eloquently than was to be expected of a child that age. Further, his nature as a kirin means he abhors violence (he can literally feel it and it affects him negatively), and is a pacifist to such a degree that he neither can nor will defend himself, or ever agree to violence being enacted on somebody, however necessary it might be.
Appearance: There are pictures in the wiki link, but shortly; either as a 13 year old blond/golden-haired boy with violet eyes where his hair is subtly spiky and stands up from his head before falling down his shoulders. Technically he also has a "human shell" as a kaikyaku born on Earth, which means he has black hair and brown eyes, looking much like your regular Japanese person, though I doubt that will apply here.
As a kirin, he has two prongs on his single horn, a pale yellow pelt and noticeably richer yellow/golden mane and tail, which looks like a horse's tail. While it's not apparent in art (anime or novel), the text describes kirin to have a glowing, multicoloured spotted back, and they have split hooves - they look somewhat like a mix between a deer and a (small) horse.
Abilities: In kirin form, he can fly, and is very fast on the ground. Powers he has access to at all times is his ability to understand anyone, regardless of how they're speaking (he can even understand the meaning of what someone who's had their tongue cut out is trying/want to say), as well as understand animals; he can subdue youma (monsters with various supernatural powers in the 12 kingdoms world) via a combination of willpower staring contest and a chant spoken at the end, which binds him and the youma in a pact - this is for his own protection, and he has at least two of these, plus his nyokai, who's something like a "nanny" and was born right before he was; he can create meishoku, which are localised, supernatural storms to breach the barrier/distance between the 12 kingdoms and regular Earth. He's also functionally immortal with some caveats (chopping off his head will kill him). There are other powers as well (for example, the ability to pass through walls, but Enki specifically doesn't have this one), but as they're never really named, they can't exactly apply.
In addition, as a kirin, he'll be adversely affected by blood, both his own and others, and directly on his person is the worst, but even in the vicinity will affect him and make him feel ill and weak, to outright sick, and, if in great enough quantity and exposed to it for long enough, it could be lethal. Violence, or the intent of such, is also not something he likes or can stand, and may make him unsettled or feel vaguely ill as well. He neither can, will, nor is capable, of inflicting violence on someone else, even in self-defense (thus his subdued youma and nyokai are for protection), though his ruler could order him to do it, as a ruler can order their kirin to do practically anything at all and they have to obey (willingly or not). Sealing his horn in either form will render him powerless, and particularly if this is done in kirin form, he won't even be able to speak. Touching the spot where the horn would be while he's in human guise is highly uncomfortable, and he doesn't like to have it touched in kirin form either. In conjunction with this, his shirei (subdued youma) will be likewise affected as he is if he's affected by blood sickness or has his powers bound.
Suitability: Enki comes from a fantasy world, but he's also familiar with modern Earth, so the setting will be familiar to him. In addition he's used (whatever he thinks of it) to politics, though his main concern will be to make sure everyone who is obeying under the governing power of Aifaran are all right, no matter what happens, so he has drive to stay more or less involved for as long as he's around. On the other hand, being away from his world and the intrinsic position he has in it, where he practically has no free will or 'things' on his own, could be a blessing (or a curse) to get a chance to live for himself (as much as that is possible).
Inventory: Nothing, aside from the clothes he's wearing and a necklace.
Talent Preferences: Restoration, Conjuration, Alteration
